This past week we did a lot of teaching our "investigators," and they are "getting baptized" this Saturday! We are getting better and better at teaching to the needs of someone.
We also practice teaching each other multiple times a day too. Also we got to skype some members in Italy this past Thursday! Sorella Dew and I got to talk to Brother Serpe from Genova. The best part was how well we could understand him! I know it will still be really hard once I get there, but it gives me hope.
Friday Night Junk Food fest in the hall. The homemade pumpkin spice bread with cream cheese frosting was a hit, thanks mom!! |
We compiled a list of "33 Things You Learn at the Provo MTC",
which will go on my blog eventually, but here are some of the highlights...
-Apparently a ridiculous amount of people don't know that Italian is a language.... No, the language in Italy is not German, Portuguese, Spanish, French or Creole!! It's Italian!! If I had a dollar for every time...
-Study and prepare your best for your lesson, but know that the Spirit will always be the teacher-- No matter how good or how bad you think you are at teaching.
-Know that the language is the least important aspect of your teaching. True story.
The biggest highlight of this week was last night when Elder Godoy's dad, Elder Godoy of the Seventy (the one who spoke in Portuguese in General Conference!) came and spoke to us. His talk was so special because it was themed on the advice your mother or father would give to you about your mission. It was everything we needed to hear and based on Alma 26:22. He broke it down into the 4 things you need to do to have the best mission you can:
1. Repent and be worthy, obey the mission rules!
2. Good works: go outside and work HARD! set specific goals! Think about if your mom or dad were to spend a day with you on your mission, would they be proud?
3. Pray continually: pray, fast and study so that when you teach you bring the Spirit, it's not just words coming out of your mouth!
4. Exercise faith. If you want to see miracles, you have to exercise faith. Don't listen to the people who try to tell you "Wow that's so hard, you're going to have no success", just like the people told Ammon and his brothers in the Book of Mormon. This one was the one that hit me the hardest. I can't tell you how many times people told me that my mission in Rome was going to be so hard, that it would be impossible because of the people. I know they didn't mean anything hurtful by it, but it was wrong. Every mission is hard. But I know that if I have faith, I will see miracles. Because God is all-powerful and I know that I'm doing His work. He will help me if I have the faith to let Him. I have that faith. Do you?
Afterwards Elder Godoy (dad) and Sister Godoy (mom) came along with the MTC President, President Nally to our district meeting in our classroom. The 6 of us bore our testimonies to them and recited the Missionary Purpose and Joseph Smith's first vision, all in Italian. Afterwards there we shook Elder Godoy's hand and got a hug and a kiss from Sister Godoy, they're so sweet. We got a picture.
