Going for a 3rd in Roma!

Letter 18~

Hello all! Ciao tutti!

Lester!!!
First off I am staying for a third transfer here in Roma, sempre (always) with Sorella Clyde! This will be her last transfer of the mission, so she is "dying" and I am "killing her." That's just a little mission lingo for ya. I'm so excited to do another transfer here, when our work has just been taking off!
Roma!
below:  at Peter and Paul's prison, where they were supposedly detained when they were incarcerated in Rome!

Secondly a Mamma Mia! Moment from this morning. The scene: A bustling street market nearby. We casually stop to sample some cracker things when I hear "Bel-la" in my right ear and out of my peripheral vision detect someone standing right next to me.  Hello, sir.  It's one of the vendors of the crackers. While Sorella Clyde is comparing prices and flavors, he starts reading my name tag, asking where I'm from. When we tell him "America" he yells to the other guys. They start talking to us too and one of them pulls out of nowhere a bottle of who knows what. They pour it into plastic cups and start trying to give it to us, telling us they'll trade for a baccio (kiss). Sorella Clyde makes her purchase and we leave them with a mormon.org card.

This is the best pasticceria ever.  It's right by a metro stop,
down the street, and down these stairs.
DELICIOUS AND SO CHEAP.
"Nutella Bar" from said pasticceria-
about 6 inches of flaky pastry, powdered
sugar and NUTELLA. 1 Euro

We taught tons of lessons this week and got even more new investigators! We had 4 in church yesterday! Our work here has just been on fire these past few weeks! No wonder we stayed together!

We went out for Chinese
with Miriam,
an investigator from L'Aquila who lives in Rome on the weekends.
She made us eat so much good Chinese food and then made us get deep-fried GELATO for dessert.
It was sooooo goooood

On Saturday was Lester's baptism!! (see pic above) We took our Romanian investigator Nico with us on a 2+ hour public transportation odyssey to the wilds of ghetto Rome 3, braving buses, metros, and a little yellow train. We got lost and ended up getting there a half hour late, thankfully the baptism started late too and we only missed the opening prayer.

It was such a privilege for me to be able to see Lester follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized. It had only been a month since I'd seen him, when we passed him to the Rome 3 missionaries, but he'd changed so much. Seeing him sitting there dressed in white I just felt the warmth of the Spirit, knowing that this is what it's all about--- every rude person on the street, every bidone'd appointment, every heart break--- it's all for that. For bringing souls unto Christ. When we first met him on the street and taught him, he was so shy and nervous. After his baptism he went in front of everyone there and bore his testimony, just rocked the house. It was incredible to see how the gospel had changed him, there was just such a light in his eyes!

In other news I am officially teaching someone named Luigi! We met him last week doing some inspired finding, where we prayerfully choose the streets to go talk to people on! He's proprio d'oro! Golden! Right after we met him I KNEW he was the reason why we'd gone to that street! We had an amazing lesson with him this week. I walked out of it so like pumped up, I didn't know if I was going to throw up or cry. I almost did both. And he came to Church this Sunday! Yeaaah!

Another little miracle story, out of a movie or something! We were out finding one night when we passed an Italian lady standing at a bus stop. We said our usual "Excuse me, we're missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-" and she said "No, I'm Catholic." Then we noticed there was a tear on her cheek.
"Is everything okay?"
She tucks in her lips, her eyes filling up with tears. She nods.
"Are you sure?"
She grabs a tissue out of her purse and starts crying.
"Is there anything we can do?" She shakes her head.
Inside me something says "ask her if she wants to pray with us" and I think "No what the heck" but I said it anyways.
As I prayed I felt the Spirit and I know she did too. We showed her Because of Him and she thanked us so much. We got her number and she said we could come see her, but she never answered. Oh well.
I'm so happy to be a representative of Jesus Christ!
