Ciao tutti!
This past week has been a little crazy. On Wednesday Sorella Marsh and my companion Sorella Clyde did scambi (exchanges?) with the sorelle in Pescara, which is outside of Rome. So they went and were companions with each of the two sorelle for 24 hours, leaving Sorella Argyle and I back here in Rome. We went to the other side of Rome to do a pass-off lesson with Lester, the filipino we set a baptism date with on the first lesson, and the Rome 3 anziani who will be teaching him from now on. He's still golden. I asked him how he felt when he read the Book of Mormon, and he said "Comfortable." I LOVE that! He also said that he felt like it brought him closer to God. It just amazes me that we were able to stop and talk to and find such an incredibly prepared person. I'm so grateful that we were inspired to go finding on that street and I know that if we have the faith, we will continue to see miracles like this!
I know last week I talked about going to Sardegna, but they ended up just sending Sorella Clyde alone. I went with the senior couple to drop her off at the airport on Thursday evening, and she had her appointment on Friday to pick up her permesso di soggiorno, basically like temporary citizenship/permission to be in the country. However she accidentally forgot some papers that she had to bring to pick it up, so she had to reschedule the appointment and we had to overnight the papers to her and very long story short she won't be coming back til this Thursday evening, a week from when she left!
So it has been a trio with me, Sorella Argyle, and Sorella Marsh! Which has been absolutely crazy and also so fun trying to do both of the companionships' work. We have had to see both their investigators and less-actives as well as ours. And it all happened just when our companionship finally got work. . .
We got 4 new investigators this week!!
RAINBOW over Roma |
One is Anna, our first Italian investigator! She is the sweetest anziana you ever met, she's like 72 years old. She had been briefly taught by missionaries last year and we found her record. She's so kind, we've taught her the Restoration and she agreed with everything we said, accepted and totally agreed with it, and wants to read the Book of Mormon to find out if it is true. She says she'd never change religions though, we'll see about that.
Another is Nexhi, who has two 20something year old sons and is originally from Albania. Her sister found the church down in Taranto (south south south Italy) and gave us her number. She is so sweet and it's so powerful to be able to talk about how her sister has found the things we are teaching to be true. She is a sarta (tailor? seamstress?) and has her own sartoria, we can go visit her during her lunch hours. She caught me looking at a cute skirt last time and forced me take it, she is too kind!! Speriamo bene!! (we hope for good things? doesn't really translate directly)
The last two are two 14 year old girls who have been coming to our English course. One day after we talked about the Book of Mormon during our spiritual thought at the end of class, they came up and asked if they could have a copy! One is from Afghanistan and one is originally Peruvian, they are just the cutest things and are determined to read the whole Book of Mormon and find out if it is true!
Then in addition to meeting with those 4 twice, we've had to try to meet with all of the other sorelle's investigators and other members- Safaa, Thelma, Rosa, Leonardo, Victoria to name some- so it's just been crazy packed full of work but so fun! As anyone who has served a mission knows, you are the happiest when you are working the hardest.
AAAAAAND as if that wasn't busy enough, transfer calls came on Saturday morning and we found out Sorella Argyle is leaving on Thursday morning! She will be training a brand new missionary in Battipaglia, near Napoli- and Sorella Marsh will be training a brand new missionary here in Roma 1! SO we have been filling in every empty second with final visits to beloved families in this wonderful ward.
Kinder Egg predictions- We have a fun mission tradition here in Italy. On the last district meeting before a transfer, we open a Kinder egg (chocolate egg with toy inside) to predict what is going to happen to you for the transfer. The toy predicts your future ;) I got a dog, and so did a few others who were almost definitely going to stay in Rome 1, so that means I am too (and that came true- no surprise. You are about 99.9% guaranteed to stay for your second transfer). However Sorella Argyle got a little crocodile, and I told her it meant See Ya Later, Alligator- we all thought she'd be going cuz she's been here for 3 transfers now. Sure enough, she's going to been training a new missionary in Battipaglia.
Kinder Eggs never lie ;)
In all it has/ will be a crazy miraculous fun hectic wonderful end to my first transfer (6 week period) here in Italy. I love the mission so much and every week just goes faster and faster. I hope this letter has at least understandable English because the longer I stay here the worse my English gets. For example, the title of this email! In Italian, to say "There are 3 of us" you say "Siamo in tre" which literally means "we are in three." Because of this, we've been finding ourselves saying "we are in three" all week long.
Best of luck to all you people back in the real world who will be taking finals soon! NATALE IS COMING!!! Today is Giorno della Concezione Immacolata here in Italy, which marks the beginning of Christmas celebration. It's like a day when it's officially okay to put up your decorations, plus the pope will be walking through Rome so we're going to try to go get a glimpse.
LOVE LOVE LOVE,
